Some sort of tragedy has touched everyone. Noone is without hurt or pain. As an entrepreneur, it is important for your business to support a cause. There are significant benefits to both you and your cause when you choose to support it.
When you choose to volunteer your time to a cause you support, it will significantly benefit you and your business. Not only will it enrich your life, but it will also introduce you to your community and build connections to people that can positively impact your business and you personally. It can help you change your view on life, help you grow as a person, and give you a clear understanding of how you are a part of the community around you.
Shows Your Support To Your Community And Others
By showing your support to a cause dear to your heart, you empathize with others and make a connection in your community. Many times causes have public fundraising activities in which you can participate. By representing your business and being involved in a fundraising activity, you connect with your community and show that you care.
A great benefit of volunteering with a cause is that it allows you to connect to and improve your community. It can also benefit you by helping you make new friends, grow your network of contacts, and discover new skills. Even small acts of volunteering can make a big difference in your community.
Examples of ways to show your support are by displaying your cause in your store, whether in person or online. Maybe you can donate a percentage of profits to your store. Local businesses that support local causes can raise funds by having a designated sale or promotional day.
Shows Your Humanity
Customers want to make a connection with small business owners. They want that personal touch. If not, they’d be purchasing at a big box company. People want to connect with you. Having a cause can show your humanity and support for a cause.
Shows Gratitude
Nothing shows gratitude like giving back to your community. Small businesses need to show their appreciation to their community. It shows how much you want to be there and support your community, and in return, the community will support you.
Expand Your Circle
You will find people that share the same experiences with you. Your circle in business will be your most significant support. When you make connections in your community, your circle will grow, which is always good for your business.
Grows Your Business
By supporting a cause through your business, people are more likely to do business with you and, in return, recommend you to others. Younger generations are looking to buy from companies that have a purpose. Having a cause that supports an organization that does good for the community appeals to many consumers. They feel like their money is going to a good cause and will more than likely do continued business with you.
My Cause And Why I Support It
I support the Alzheimer’s Association. My family has been affected by this disease many times. It is a cause that is close to my heart. In 2013 my grandmother wanted to walk in the yearly Alzheimer’s walk to remember her mother that died from the horrible disease. Since 2013 I have participated in the Alzheimer’s walk here in Rome, Georiga. I walk because my grandmother wants to walk. Her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s before I was even born. So when she said she wanted to walk in the Alzheimer’s walk in memory of her mother, I was happy to do so with her, along with my mother, aunt, and cousin. I grew up watching my grandmother taking care of her mother. I have seen what Alzheimer’s does to a person and what it does to their loved ones. It is a horrific disease that does not discriminate. The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness and money. They raise awareness of what is being done and what the future holds in the medical field for Alzheimer’s.
For my family, it has turned into a yearly tradition. Not only is it for a great cause, but it is also a time that we are building memories with our family. Weeks before the walk, my mom sets her jar on her counter at work, asking for donations. We print flyers for her to hang at her beauty shop. I make everyone matching t-shirts to wear on the day of the event.
It seems that everyone I talk to knows someone that this disease has affected somehow. Our family has chosen the Alzheimer’s Association as our cause to support because it has touched our lives. If you want to walk, you can find more information at alz.org. There are walks in cities across the United States; there is probably one close to you. You may have a different cause that you support, which is terrific. I believe that helping a cause that has touched your life, such as Alzheimer’s, is a great way to honor or remember your friends and family.

Being an online business owner, it’s so important to take a stand! I think it humanizes the brand overall. Thanks so much for sharing that you support the Alzheimer’s Association. My grandfather passed away from that.
I think it’s very important to show community interest and support. Great article.
