You’ve planned, prepared, and set up, and now you anticipate a great day of craft fair sales. Running your own vendor booth is an exciting time. Whether it is your first craft fair or your hundredth, there are always ways to improve and increase sales. Here are some simple solutions to the most common craft booth mistakes.
What Not To Do At A Craft Fair
Nothing is more disheartening than a customer showing interest in buying one of your items, and suddenly they turn and walk away. We may never know the reason why someone decides to not follow through with what you thought was a sale, but there are things we can do to make sure we don’t make some of the most common mistakes when it comes to our booth.
DON’T BE TOO “SALESY” WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS
You want to be welcoming and available to all that come to your booth. What you don’t want is to be overbearing. Being a pushy salesperson will be more likely to run off sales than make sales.
It’s a delicate balance between being friendly and too salesy with your customers. Finding a good balance is essential. Be available for any questions, demonstration, or description of your product, and be friendly and kind while not being pushy or demanding. To some, this comes easily with their personality, and others must be conscious about interactions.
Don’t View Competitors As Negative Competition
Healthy competition is good for your business because it can be a great motivator with positive results. But competition that results in confusing your customer reflects negatively on your business and can cost you sales. Saying negative things about competitors can cast your business in a negative light. Making an ally out of your competition makes you look professional and can significantly help your business.
Not Having Your Name Clearly Visible
You want to make a positive and lasting impression on everyone that sees your booth. So, nothing is worse than not having your name proudly displayed. You want people to remember your business and brand, and with your name visible, they will be able to do so. So, display your name proudly and as many times as possible.
Not Having Clear Prices
Once your product has attracted a customer’s attention, the next question is, “how much is it?”. Having clearly defined prices marked on your products makes it easy to know how much an item is and keeps you from having to memorize or search for prices. It also makes you seem prepared and professional. You don’t have to individually mark each item if you have signs with a description and price sitting with your items. You can be as creative as you want when posting your items’ pricing.
Booth Is Overcrowded
You want to display your items so they are easily seen and manageable for your customer. You don’t want to overcrowd your displays. Using raised displays is a great way to add height and space to your booth.
No Way To Follow up
One of the most common mistakes I see with vendors is not having a way to give their information or follow up with a customer. It is easy to have something to give to your customers so they can follow you on social media, contact you for orders or share with a friend. If you have an established email list, have a way to collect email addresses so they can stay up to date with you and your business.
Now that you know some of the most common mistakes vendors make at craft fairs, you will be ahead of the rest!
