Sensational Getaway In Helen, Georgia

On a Friday afternoon, when my husband Wesley got off work, he walked through the door and said, “let’s go somewhere.” We were tired of being at home and needed an escape. That’s how we ended up on a sensational getaway in Helen, Georgia. Helen. Helen, Georgia, is located in North Georgia in the Foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.

As a travel agent, I booked us a great little place within just a few minutes. It had been years since I had been to Helen, Georgia, but I knew it was a German-themed town, and I wanted the best immersive experience we could get. With little packing, we were on our way to a quick weekend excursion. The best thing about a short trip is that it can show you all the wonders that lie around you. Best of all, you don’t have to take vacation days away from work for a weekend trip.

We arrived in Helen, Georgia, and checked into our room just before dark. There were four rooms to each unit and styled like German houses. The hotel was located downtown Helen and within walking distance from the shops and dining. In the courtyard was a patio that had a fire pit and sitting area.

We asked the man at the front desk where he recommended eating dinner with great German food. He directed us to the Heidelberg. It did not disappoint. The food was delicious and had a German feel to the whole restaurant.

After we ate, we strolled up and down the main street in town. It was cold but calm. When we were there, it was late January, and the Christmas decorations were still up. Most of the shops were closed, but it was nice to look at the Christmas lights.

The following day we got up and ate breakfast at Hofer’s Bakery & Cafe. It was delicious. I didn’t get a picture of Hofer’s. It was Saturday morning, and it was super busy. After breakfast, we walked up and down the street. One main street goes through Helen, and everything is located on the main road or just behind it. So everything is within walking distance. There were so many shops, bakeries, specialty stores, and just many unique things to see.

The whole town has the German theme running through it. Everywhere you look, you see things that are German-inspired, like this carved man playing the accordion. We found him inside a shop that had smaller stores within it.

I have a confession. I have a suit of armor just like this in my house. He is made of sheet metal and is five feet tall. I was excited because I had never seen one before. Mine came from my aunt, whose husband had custom-made. I feel sure that the same person made mine and this one.

We continued our day looking around downtown Helen and going in and out of the little shops. It was so much fun looking at all of the things you can only find there. The entire town was themed as a German Village with German art, food, decorations, and merchandise.

Before leaving, we found a few other activities that you can try when visiting Helen. They have an Alpine Coaster ride, tubing, and a water park. We also noticed that camping is popular in Helen.
